Whale Watching Uvita

Whale Watching in Uvita is a top nature experience! Uvita is the best place to see whales in Costa Rica. Marino Ballena National Park in Uvita is one of the best places in the world for whale watching according to National Geographic. We spent a great deal of time doing the tours with different operators with the specific goal of finding the best guides and best boats! In this post, I’ll share with you what to expect when whale watching in Costa Rica, and recommend my favorite whale watching tour company in Uvita which you can book through us.
Uvita is where the humpback whales spend more time than anywhere else. They are in Uvita 10 months out of the year! One of the amazing parts of the nature tour is that the tour departs from the largest marine/beach national park in Costa Rica, Marina Ballena Parque. This beach is often called Whale’s Tail Beach or Uvita Beach in English. The beach has a naturally formed giant whale’s tail formation created by the current of two rivers! Casitas Del Rio Riverfront Nature Lodge is actually located on one of these rivers!
Casitas Del Rio Riverfront Nature Lodge is located only a few minutes from Marino Ballena National Park, Whales Tail Beach

Another tour you might like is our guided nature tour of Bahia Ballena National Park or Whale’s Tail National Park to see monkeys, sloths, and parrots!
Whale Watching Uvita – Whale Seasons
January-April – whales from the North visit us.
July-November – whales from the South visit us.
July-November is our favorite time! This is when the mothers are calving their babies. To see the mother with her newborn baby is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
What to Expect on our Whale Watching Tour
We suggest doing the tour in the morning because the weather is amazing in the morning here! Mornings are the best in Costa Rica as the animals celebrate the beginning of new splendid day. Daylight here is 5:30am to 6:00pm all year around due to our close proximity to the equator. The circadian rhythm in Costa Rica is early to bed and early to rise! Morning offer clear & bright skies dotted with puffy white clouds and not too hot.
Our whale tour is a magnificent boat tour where you enjoy the spectacular Marino Ballena National Park. This is the largest marine park in Costa Rica. While enjoying the boat ride watch for whales, dolphins, & turtles.

Our Whale Watching Tour includes the entrance to the national park. You can re-enter the park the same day so save your entry ticket! Our whale watching tour also includes free secure parking! We suggest you enjoy lunch in Uvita at a local restaurant like Acacia Restaurant at the Uvita Waterfall and Butterfly Garden. Drive through the Bamboo Forest. Then go to Playa Chaman to re-enter the national park at a new entrance. Playa Chaman is much more natural with a solid canopy overhead where you can often see monkeys and brightly colored Scarlet Macaw parrots!
Enjoy the amazing views of Costa Ballena. The view from a boat back onto the sprawling massive beaches with the majestic mountains in the background is truly spectacular!

This is a splendid boat tour of Whale’s Tail Beach and while searching for whales, you can also commonly see dolphins, turtles, & birds! The boat will also take you to Whale Rock and Playa Ventanas, where you will see the caves that form a natural Window of the Pacific.
