Weather in Uvita and Dominical
Nestled along the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, Uvita beckons with its tropical climate that promises endless days of sunshine and breeze-kissed evenings. With temperatures averaging in the high 70s to low 80s all year round, Uvita boasts a climate so balmy and inviting that you’ll never want to leave.
When is the Best Time to Visit Uvita, Costa Rica
We often get asked, “When is the best time to visit?” or “What is rainy season like?” Of course there are pros and cons to each month, but the short answer is that there are long periods when it is warm and dry and other times where you can get evening rain. However, there is really only one month that we do not recommend visiting Uvita and that is October. Not so much because the weather is bad as sometimes it is amazing weather. But, the reputation has been spread that it is rainy so few tourists are coming here during that month. So now, many business take advantage of this time to close and take the time to repair and prepare for the busier times.
Weather by the Month in Uvita, Costa Rica
Obviously, we cannot say with certainty what the weather will be doing, but the weather is pretty predictable and consistent here than in most places. The mountains are close to the sea here than anywhere else in Costa Rica, this creates a conveyor belt of micro climate as the sea provides consistent warmth, the jungle is the Earth’s lungs and “breathes” its new life, and the mountains provide the altitude change that changes the temperature and precipitation.
These are based on historical data and our own observations.
November
The beginning of our peak season! This is our Spring, it is the end of the rain and so the jungle is bursting alive. We love the cooler temperatures 22-27C or 70-80F. In terms of tourism, the first three weeks are slower with a peak around the American Thanksgiving holiday. Pricing for lodging is most affordable during the first 3 weeks.
December
This is the beginning of our subtle “change of seasons” as we transition into our summer weather. There could be a handful of days with rain almost always between 3:00-5:00 but sunny and clear, but not “hot” Temperatures are 25-30C or 77-86F. Tourism is lower the first two weeks, but Dec 15th-Jan 7th is the height of Christmas travelers! Places can book out 4 months in advance! In combination with our international visitors, we get a lot of Costa Ricans who escape the cities for the holday season.
January
January is the beginning of our summer so you start to feel the drier season. Temperatures peak around 32C or 90F with very little chance of rain. A favorite time for visitors wanting to escape freezing temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere. One of two whale seasons is in full swing during this time! Best to book well in advance. This is also the beginning of our Avocado Season!
February
High season is combined with hot, dry, sunny weather. The low rain makes it the perfect time to Dive or Snorkel at Cano Island Biological Reserve! The ocean is beautiful and sunsets are stunning! Birds migrating from the Northern Hemisphere are visiting and this is peak Bird Watching Time! Monkeys and other mammals will be less visible and are best seen at daybreak. Temperatures are around 27C or 80F for a high.
March
Our hottest month with temperatures of 35C or 95F at the warmest! March means Spring Break travelers wanting to soak up or eternal Spring weather and work on their tan. The international music festival Envision Fest is in March and we get more visitors than we have space for. This event typically sells out the surrounding communities.
April
Summer is fading into our Fall so temperatures cool down and the few light showers feed the thirsty jungle starting the cycle of life here in the rainforest. Temperature of 32C or 90F. Easter in Costa Rica and specifically the week after Christmas is known as Santa Semana or holy week. This is a big deal and a great deal of nationalists flock to the beach during this week, best to book in advance for the best selection.
May
The height of Mango season, you will see Mangos being sold on the sides of the road and in the local markets. May is the beginning of our “Green Season” The rainforest is starting to green up and the light rain in the evenings feeds the heliconias and other broad leaf plants that burst into tropical flowers! Temperatures are 30C or 86F. May is a perfect time to visit with less tourists.
June
Begins the summer break time and families visit the area. Temperatures drop to 20C or 80F and as the forest thrives with the light evening rain, it helps keep it cool and provides more shade! This begins the best time for White Water Rafting as the rivers began to expand.
July
This is known locally as veranillo or little summer. Sort of like our Fall season in July and August. We get very clear sunny mornings and early afternoons with a light rain usually between 3:00-5:00. A perfect time for wildlife and nature tours as the rainforest is now bursting with tropical flowers and producing the food that the monkeys and birds thrive on! Temperatures are similar to June 20C or 80F. Humpback Whale Season is in full swing again!
August
Mangosten Season in Costa Rica! These delicious fruits are amazing! Whales from the Southern Hemisphere are here in abundance and it almost guaranteed to see a whale in Uvita! It almost never rains in the mornings. Sunrise at 5:30 and clear until around 3:00 so the best time to be active is in the mornings! Rain is light and more of a romantic rain than a nuissance. Summer holidays are winding down for most.
September
The height of Mamom Chino or Rambutan Fruit is happening so you will see these vibrant fruits in the local markets. September has amazing weather and some of the best sunsets at this time. The famous Whale Festival is the first weekend in September annually. Temperatures in the mid to high 20C or mid 80F
October
This is the heaviest time for rainfall, but the forest is SUPER GREEN and bursting with tropical flowers!
