What to Bring:
Avoid the long drive South to access the park, departing from Uvita is faster and less expensive! You will be traveling on a comfortable and safe boat. This is also where the whales are so you get a whale tour included in this experience. The boat departs from the beautiful beaches of Ballena National Park in Uvita.
Along the way, you will have the opportunity to see many unique natural attractions such as the Whales Tail or “Cola de la Ballena” and Whale Rock or “Piedra Ballena”, all the while experiencing epic views of the southern coast of Costa Rica where the lush green mountains meet the glorious clean waters of the Pacific Ocean.
During the journey, you will have the opportunity to see many marine species such as groups of dolphins, birds, sea turtles, and even possibly whales! Remember this is not a whale and dolphin tour, but some guests have reported seeing them on the way!
You will arrive at San Pedrillo, the park’s first ranger station, where bathrooms, fresh-water showers, drinking water, and green areas are available.
We recommend using our preferred partners as we do these nature tours ourselves and select the best operators! These guides are highly trained individuals who will take the time to explain the myriad details of everything you see and find of interest. Our guests often see monkeys, sloths, toucans, scarlet macaws, pizotes, anteaters, and many other strange and exotic species!
National Park permits are limited to only allow a certain number of people per day into the park. This limits the impact of humans so you can experience the amazing biodiversity. But, it also means you must book in advance to avoid disappointment. It is often sold out, so be sure to book with us before your arrival!
