This is an authentic chocolate tour, meaning you will experience the history of chocolate from an actual farmer.  He is extremely passionate and knowledgable you will NOT feel like this is an amusement park type of experience like at some other places.

Visit a chocolate farm, make your own chocolate, and have a lot of fun! We have done a lot of these chocolate tours around Costa Rica and this one is the most authentic and best experience we have found!

Learn how chocolate is made in the traditional way, by hand. This interactive tour, is in English and lasts roughly 3 hours. The chocolate-making process starts with cacao plants grown on a bio-diverse plantation in the hills above Uvita. Taste raw cacao beans and experience how the taste changes as the beans are fermented (yes fermented!), then dried, roasted, and winnowed. You will assist in the grinding of the roasted beans into a paste, on an antique metate. Finally, you will prepare a chocolate drink from the beans you have processed.

You will also have the opportunity to purchase a fresh natural drink from the family during the tour.  This is not included in the tour and you will want to bring some cash for this, but the cost is quite reasonable.
